Mr. Dhiraj Rambhia

Mr. Rambhia is currently Executive Director, Yuvraj Industries Limited, Director, Yuvraj International Limited, and Director, Yuvraj Hospitals Limited He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors from the University of Mumbai and is a qualified ex-banker (C.A.I.I.B.) Mr. Rambhia has made an incredible contribution to the Eye Donation Movement by setting up the world’s largest human chain of doctors and social workers, comprising a work force of more than 500 who struggle day and night to collect eyeballs for corneal grafting. He is the founder and president of Tarun Mitra Mandal which is one of the largest contributors of EBCRC since 1997.

*Preferable age for eye donation is less than 80 years. With advancing age the utility rate goes down rapidly and especially for age group in +80, it is as low as less than 5 percent and are seldom useful to give sight to the blind.

*The eyes have to be removed within six hours of death.

*Inform eye bank or eye collection center immediately irrespective of the initial pledging of eye donation.

*Eye removal takes only 25-30 minutes and leaves no scar or disfigurement of the face.

*Eye donation gives sight to two or more than two blind persons. One blind person is given one eye.

*Only the cornea is transplanted for all practical purpose and not the entire eyeball. However, other part of eye is used for research and education purpose.

*The donated corneas are transplanted to patients eye who are waiting list in accordance with the priority based on guidelines to avoid malpractices.

*The eyes are never bought or sold.
