EBCRC is a Model Community Eye Bank in South East Asia linked with more than 22 Eye Collection Centres .
Since 1995 till March 2017 centre has provided more than 9600 corneas to the patients.
Many people are unaware about reasons for low/bad or loss of vision. The gift of vision is the most precious boon. We have about ten to twelve million blind people in India out of which about 10% are estimated to have lost vision due to corneal diseases. This figure further swells by the addition of about 25,000 to 30,000 new patients every year.
The Ophthalmologists diagnose the need for transplantation of cornea. Research and advanced techniques of modern surgery have made it possible to remove the opaque and defective cornea and replace it with a transparent healthy cornea which provides vision to corneally blind people.
As per the diagnosis patient needs to get registered with an Eye Bank for the type of tissue/cornea requirement. As per the procedure laid down by the Government under Transplantation of Human Organ Act (THOA) the tissues are provided on first come first basis and as the priorities decided as per the THOA Act. The same are as under.
