It is advantageous for the surgeons as well as for Eye Bank to provide ‘Pre-cut’ corneas as it may save lot of time of the surgeon as otherwise he has to do the procedure of slicing and preparing the same for surgery himself.

EBCRC has purchased Gebauer’s Precut DSAEK Machine (imported from Germany), the cost of machine is around Rs.30 lacs.

Our new Gabeur DSAEK machine is giving very accurate pre-cut tissue so that Surgeons can now do posterior lamellar Keratoplasty without having to invest in a DSAEK machine.

Our Pre-cut tissues have been deeply appreciated by many surgeons who have already taken pre cut tissue from us.

From September, 2015 till March 2017 EBCRC has provided more than 75 nos. of Precut DSAEK tissue to various surgeon in Mumbai.

In future it is also possible for the Eye Bank to provide a single cornea for multiple grafts to more than one surgeon. For this it would be necessary for the Eye Bank to procure the equipment known as Micro Keratome which can slice the cornea and also train the staff for this procedure.

The cost of disposable accessories used for each precut is very high e.g. cost of blade and tube (one time use) is more than Rs. 6500/- It will be surely helpful if our burden is shared by sponsoring the project so that it will enable us to provide precut corneas at subsidized rate.
